I’m Byron — I am a data scientist by day, a researcher by night and a company founder when I find time in between.

I currently work for a company called Recorded Future where I manage a team of data engineers and data scientists on the Data Science team that are in charge of “Advanced Collections”. My team is responsible for building web harvesters to collect information on the dark web, analyzing stolen credentials from malware, and maintaining downstream NLP processes on the sensitive text data we collect.

I used to work in a similar role for a company in the internet-security space called Nethone, where I managed a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists in charge of building models for ecommerce-fraud detection. I also run a consulting company called Signum Analytics that specializes in data engineering and model building.

I actively conduct research in the fields of maritime economics and economic history. I’m currently investigating the phenomenon of maritime vessels flying flags of convenience and exploring the legacy of the Recovered Territories and migratory patterns on economic outcomes in contemporary Poland.

I’m also conducting research in the field of NLP. In particular, I’m investigating pre- and post-processing methods for improving the performance of large pre-trained models specifically on question-and-answer (QA) tasks.
